IMP LapWrap® Positioning Pad provides more security for the patient and greater versatility for the surgical team

IMP LapWrap® Positioning Pad provides more security for the patient and greater versatility for the surgical team

PLAINVILLE, Conn. (February 13, 2019) -- Providing tremendous benefits for the surgeon, anesthesiologist and the entire OR staff, the Humbles LapWrap® Positioning Pad was conceived in a team effort by Frank Humbles, M.D., a member of the Department of Anesthesiology at the Conway Medical Center in South Carolina, and Innovative Medical Products.

The LapWrap® ensures complete patient stability by firmly securing patients’ arms by their sides during the entire surgical procedure, with full visual access for the surgical team.

The Humbles/IMP solution is designed with a soft, comfortable, foam base pad with straps coming off the pad that capture the patient’s arms with hook and loop material that will not loosen or come apart as often happens with tucked sheets. The straps cover only part of the patient’s arm therefore allowing full access to the exposed sections of the arm.

The positioning pad has additional hook fasteners on the center cutout strap providing more flexibility for securing the patient. This allows the positioner’s latex-free, foam straps, for example, to be placed between the operating table and the side rail, wrapped around the side rail and then back onto themselves for extra security. This added safety feature secures the patient directly to the OR table.

Because the LapWrap® firmly secures the patient throughout the entire surgical procedure, there is no cause for concern that a patient coming out of anesthesia will be able to violently flail about, as happens in some cases, or fall off the table. The LapWrap® not only provides added security for the patient’s post-operative phase but also was designed to meet AORN recommendations for positioning the patient in the perioperative setting and prevent tissue injury and ischemia that might be caused by tucking a patient’s arms at his or her side.

The universal design of the LapWrap® easily accommodates all size patients with an optional extension-fastening strap to secure even extremely obese patients. The universal design also cuts down on hospital inventory costs.

Testimonials

  • “It’s very helpful in the OR, for example, we used it last weekend on a sub troch fracture in the lateral position and it helped us position.”

    - Dr. James Cameron -MD
  • “I like the SteriBump because it’s lint-free, safer for patient positioning because it’s more secure and easier for the doctor to use than wrapping towels.”

    - Caitlyn Pourcho -RN, OR Circulator
  • “From establishing the position and securing the patient to performing procedures and testing range of motion, we created a system that’s faster and easier while also giving doctors completely unrestricted access to the surgical field.”

    - Ed De Mayo M.D. -Device Inventor
  • Our hospital purchased SteriBump® to replace our handmade ‘bundles’ for many of the same reasons that hospitals moved away from re-sterilizing cloth OR table drapes some years ago.

    - Anonymous -Central Sterile Services (CSS) Administrator
  • "The best reason I have for using the SteriBump is that it is sterile every time. The sterility is validated. We were using rolled blankets that were sterilized before this that were sterilized in Sterile Processing. It's one less item they have to deal with and try to keep up with."

    - Brenda Conbeer -OR Inventory Coordinator
